2015 Sangiacomo Roberts Road Pinot Noir
About this wine
La Follette's Pinot Noir from Roberts Road Vineyard is a contiguous block planted to two clones that is secluded from the rest of the vineyard. The Dijon 777 clone produces small berries that supply soft texture and good acid balance; the Swan clone contributes deeper structure and spice. In 2015, the two clones ripened simultaneously and were harvested in one pass.
The Roberts Road Vineyard is located at the base of the eastern foothills of the Sonoma Coast AVA, directly adjacent to Gap's Crown vineyard in the Petaluma Gap. The 'gap' pulls the ocean breeze in through the Russian River Valley where it rolls over the foothills, moderating the healthy amount of sun this vineyard gets from its southwestern exposure. Fog lingers until mid-day and strong afternoon winds enable the fruit to get plenty of hang time. All these technicalities of terroir combine at Roberts Road and the fruit achieves full maturity while retaining the softness of the Pinot Noir.
Unrestrained aromatics of forest herbs, wild strawberry. This opulent expression of this single-vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir offers both an earthy richness and integrated red-fruit acidity. Smooth tannins build to a long cocoa finish.
