2014 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Russian River Valley
About this wine
The heartbreak grape only thrives in a few places in the world, and this exclusive offering captures the essence of the Russian River Valley. The appellation’s cool-climate nurtures full flavor development for early-ripening Pinot Noir. Painstaking attention to detail in both the vineyard and cellar brings forth the truest expression of this preeminent Pinot Noir region.
This cuvée is comprised of a seductive barrel selection from two of La Follette’s venerable winegrowing partners, DuNah Vineyard and Hawk’s Roost Vineyard. Chosen for exuberant expression of fruit, rich tannins and classic Russian River character, these eight barrels together create the whole greater than the sum of its parts. Like our vineyarddesignated wines, these lots were vinified with native primary and secondary fermentations, but with extended maturation in barrel.
Deeply perfumed nose of cherry, anise and wild mushroom. A silky entry leads to a core of fresh, red fruit; the signature of the DuNah Vineyard. Mid-palate spice and earthiness bring volume and anchor the wine. The Hawk’s Roost Vineyard selections bring power to the mid-palate with richness and polished tannins that expand into the long finish. Enjoyed in its youth or cellared for 2-5 years, this small bottling, offers both the grace and the concentration of classic Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.
