2014 Manchester Ridge Chardonnay
About this wine
With a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean, Manchester Ridge Vineyard is perched at 2000 ft. elevation. Winters are moderated by the maritime climate and the vines are rooted in well-draining, decomposed sandstone. Shoot growth is slow through the relatively cool summer, which allows the fruit a long hang time for flavor development and ripeness.
2014 Manchester Ridge Chardonnay is comprised of three clones harvested on the same day. The three clones are chosen for their individual contributions. The Old Wente Clone provides pleasing fruitiness and weight to the palate. Dijon 809, an exotic Musqué clone, is prized for its aromatics. Clone 76 imparts bright acidity. The final mélange captures the vibrancy of this stunning coastal vineyard.
A beguiling bouquet of mandarin and key-lime immediately tantalizes. Firm acidity on entry persists throughout. Fresh pineapple is followed by late spice on the palate. Elegantly framed in oak, the wine is neatly structured and dynamic on the palate.
